The Car

© Ed FaheyThe current ZEN Time Attack car has been custom built, in-house, from the shell upwards. It has a fully seam welded and strengthened chassis, with a T45 Custom Cages FIA roll cage to the latest specs. The suspension is a one-off bespoke set made by EXE-TC Competition Suspension to ZEN's specification. The long engine is fully specified and built by ZEN, with components supplied by Lateral Performance. The turbocharger, wastegates and digital dash are all supplied by AET Turbos Motorsport. Brakes are being developed in conjunction with K-Sport. The transmission is OEM 6 speed M/T complimented by a triple carbon Exedy clutch supplied once again by Lateral Performance. There are many hours of custom fabrication work by ZEN on the car, from the rear radiator installation, to chassis modifications, to exhaust system. The car is completed with carbon kevlar 'wide-body' panels and a subtle green and graphite colour scheme from Eclipse Motor Bodies.

The car runs in the region of 600bhp, fully mapped in-house by Paul Blamire on an Autronic SM4 engine management system. The car is fuelled by Bioethanol E85, making ZEN the only 'Green Team' in the UK Time Attack series. Testing to date has been very successful, with the E85 allowing similar levels of power when compared to the ultra high octane racing gasoline, while bringing the advantages of much cleaner running and lower exhaust and turbo temperatures.

The 'Green Goblin' is very much a 'new' car and as such, research and development of it's capabilities is still ongoing. However, recent results in the UK Time Attack series shows that the car is quickly getting up to pace. In fact, at Round 3 at Silverstone Mr Ito of Do-Luck (an experienced Japanese tuner) and 'Tarzan' Yamada (perhaps the most experienced Time Attack driver in the world, with experience of the Japanese, US and UK scenes) agreed that without question the ZEN and Roger Clark Impreza's are the quickest Subaru's in the world, far superior to any currently in Japan or elsewhere!
